Saturday’s Artisan Market at Bonnie Brae in time for Easter

It’s the first anniversary of the Saturday’s Artisan Market (S.A.M.) in St. Peter’s this weekend and if you don’t know what that is, you’ve been missing a great monthly craft sale event. If you’re looking for one-of-kind, handmade, quality products for yourself or for gifts, then you will probably find it there.

Sugar Rush Sweets will be there with baked treats, Covehouse Creations with jewelry, and Brenda’s Upcycled Creations will be there with her wool goods. There will be handmade soaps from Lilly’s Soaps , metal sculptures from Pinpoint Metal Art,  beautiful candles and other things from The Little Flower Farm and Tracy’s Rolling Yarn Shop will be rolling in with her trailer, to name just a few of the regulars.

The venue is the old Richmond Line Railway Station which is now the Bonnie Brae Seniors Club  at 14 Toulouse St. in St. Peter’s just behind Foodland. You can’t miss it — it’s a delightful vintage red building that looks, well, like a repurposed railway station. And of course it’s fully accessible.

Some S.A.M. history

The Saturday’s Artisan Market idea was hatched by Brigitte Dimock and Deb Richard at Deb’s kitchen table. Brigitte told us, “We were sitting around here one day, probably drinking wine, and Deb was doing her crafting and said, ‘What are we gonna do with all these crafts?’ Then one of us had the brilliant idea: why don’t we start our own market?” And they did.

“There are so many talented people around and no outlet for them,” Deb said, which accounts for the successful vendor recruiting they experienced. The market has since grown to 13 vendors and even has a waiting list.

Ideally they want to get to 25 tables. That would be the perfect number, they believe, to keep it all “intimate and cosy” as Brigitte describes it. Deb is quick to add,  and having “a blast.”

Creators of the Saturday's Artisan Market

The Saturday Artisan Market was created right here at Deb Richard's (right) kitchen table. Last year she and Brigitte Dimock (left) were wondering what they were going to do with all the crafts they were making. The answer was to create a market for them and all the makers they knew were in the area.

Take time to connect with the crafters

“Intimate and cosy” makes it a great setting to take the time to connect with these area crafters. They’re incredibly skillful and knowledgeable and ready to talk about their creations and the process that went into them.

But don’t just come by yourself. This is the Easter weekend sale so bring your family and out-of-town Easter guests because there will be something for everybody.

It's all fun

This is the first thing Deb showed us when we walked in the door: Brigitte's promo for the April market. Deb said that when she pointed out the candies Brigitte had posted were poop emoji's, Brigitte asked, "Do you think anyone is going to notice." Deb replied, "Everybody is going to notice." Of course, they left the promo up anyway. It was probably too funny not to.
